Nothing on a block is harder to fix than a bad slab with a building on it. Once the shed or studio is bolted down, whatever is wrong underneath is permanent, which is why the slab is specified for its load before it is priced, not repaired after it fails.
Sized to the load, not the guess
A 100mm slab on SL72 mesh carries a garden shed comfortably for decades. Put a vehicle, racking or machinery on the same slab and the specification steps up to 125mm on SL82, with thickened edges wherever the manufacturer’s drawings ask for them. This is outbuilding work only: sheds, garages, studios and workshops. Slabs that carry a dwelling are structural work belonging to your builder’s concreter, and we leave them to it.

Access is usually the deciding factor: the run down the side of a period house is long and narrow, and where a truck cannot reach the pour, the concrete is pumped or barrowed and the quote says so up front rather than as a variation on the day.
